How we fix your credit
Credit repair is the process of correcting a credit report so it reflects only accurate, verifiable information. It is different from credit restoration after identity theft. Our certified counselors focus on three things:
- Professional credit analysis. A line-by-line review of your Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion reports to find inaccurate, incomplete, outdated, or unverifiable items.
- Customized disputes. Tailored dispute letters to the bureaus and the original creditors, not generic templates. We work late payments, charge-offs, collections, repossessions, foreclosures, inquiries, and identity errors.
- Creditor interventions. Higher-level contact with creditors and collectors, including goodwill requests and validation demands, when a bureau dispute alone is not enough.
Every client is paired with a dedicated credit coach who tracks each round, explains what came back, and plans the next step. You can follow every dispute and result in your client portal, 24 hours a day.
What a legitimate credit repair company looks like
The Credit Repair Organizations Act (CROA) requires transparency and prohibits advance fees. A reputable company will:
- Give you a written contract that lists every service and the terms of payment, plus a three-day right to cancel.
- Never charge you before the promised work for that period is done.
- Never promise a specific score increase or the removal of accurate information.
- Never suggest a “new credit identity” or applying for credit with an alternate number. Those are federal crimes.
Credit Services of America is a licensed Credit Services Organization in Texas (License #2012-0007, Bond #5094141) with more than a decade in business and a 5.0-star Google rating at our El Paso main office. A local company also means you can sit down with your counselor in person.
How credit reports work
Credit bureaus compile your history from the lenders that report to them: the types of credit you have, how long accounts have been open, whether payments were on time, and how much you owe. Lenders, insurers, landlords, and some employers use that report to make decisions about you.
Negative information stays on your report for seven years in most cases, and up to ten years for certain bankruptcies. Bureaus update reports monthly from what creditors send them, which is why errors are common and why disputes work.
You are entitled to free reports from all three bureaus at AnnualCreditReport.com. We recommend pulling them before your consultation so we can review the real thing together.
Strategies that raise a score
Repairing errors is half the job. Your coach will also work with you on the factors that drive the score itself:
- Payment history (35% of a FICO score). Automatic payments and reminders so nothing is late again. One 30-day late payment can cost a strong score 60 to 100 points.
- Credit utilization (30%). Keep balances under 30% of each limit, and under 10% if you want the best scores. Paying balances down before the statement date moves this factor within one or two months.
- Length of history. Keep older accounts open when they cost you nothing.
- New credit. Limit applications while we are working, especially before a mortgage or auto loan.
- Credit mix. A secured credit card or credit-builder loan can add positive history when your file is thin.
Watch for scams
Warning signs of a credit repair scam include demands for upfront payment, promises to remove accurate information, guaranteed score increases, or instructions to apply for an EIN or CPN in place of your Social Security number. If a company will not put its services in writing, walk away.
What it costs
Pricing is set after your free credit analysis because the work depends on what is on your reports. You will see the plan and the price in writing before anything starts. There are no setup fees, no hidden fees, and you never pay per deletion. If we cannot help at the outset, we keep working at no additional cost until we deliver results.
Credit Repair questions
What exactly does credit repair involve?
Credit repair from CSA involves reviewing your credit reports for inaccuracies, disputing incorrect information with the bureaus and creditors, and using lawful strategies to remove negative items that cannot be verified.
How long does credit repair take?
Some clients see improvement within 30 to 60 days, but the total time depends on what is on your reports. Each dispute round takes roughly 30 to 45 days for the bureaus to respond, and most clients work with us for several months.
Can you remove all negative items from my report?
No company can lawfully guarantee that. We can dispute items that are inaccurate, incomplete, or cannot be verified. Accurate, verifiable negative information stays until it ages off, usually seven years.
Will credit repair hurt my credit score?
No. Disputing inaccuracies does not lower your score. Correcting errors and following the plan your coach builds with you is designed to improve it over time.
How much does it cost?
Pricing is personalized after a free credit analysis, because every report is different. Under the Credit Repair Organizations Act we cannot charge for services before they are performed, and there are no setup fees.
Is credit repair legal?
Yes. Credit repair is governed by the Fair Credit Reporting Act and the Credit Repair Organizations Act, which give you the right to dispute inaccurate information and require companies like ours to give you a written contract, a three-day cancellation right, and to perform services before charging.
